Abundant Water is pleased to announce that we have received a generous second grant from the US Embassy in Timor-Leste as part of their Ambassador's Small Grants Fund!
Abundant Water will use this funding to install our new 28 litre water filters in 5 schools in Cova Lima to bring clean drinking water to over 800 schoolchildren. In addition, we will identify and train 5 female entrepreneurs to sell filters throughout their communities, aiming to benefit over 3000 household beneficiaries from now and into the future.
A new component of our project will also see us focus on raising awareness of recycling and the impact of plastic pollution with students at each beneficiary school. As our filters substantially reduce each household's need to buy plastic water bottles, we aim to double-down on this environmental issue in Timor-Leste and also upcycle used plastic bottles recycled by Caltech Group.
The project will see us work with members of Feto Enginhera and Don Bosco to build filter stands for each classroom with bench tops made from recycled plastic. This lasting product will stay at schools to remind schoolchildren of how we can address plastic bottle waste now and turn this product into a valuable building material. With over 100 million plastic bottles used and discarded every year, we aim to reduce household's need to purchase bottles everyday and instead bring filtered water with them to school and work.
Thank you to the U.S Embassy for helping us serve the common good.
