This month, we finished up the installations for the CFLI project in Bobonaro and Liquica.
We installed 2 filters in Bazartete Health Centre, which serves around 80 people in the community every day, and 7 filters for Bazartete Primary School.
Upon arriving at the clinic back in December, we took a sample of their drinking water and tested it in our office. These tests found that the clinic's water contained Coliforms, which the clinic uses every day. As the primary school also uses water from the same source, we installed filters there too, providing the 135 students with access to clean drinking water during the school day.
Just like at our previous installations, staff at the clinic and school saw the health and economic benefits of using our filters in their own homes and bought a few more at the same time for themselves. Staff and students were very grateful for receiving the filters after learning that the shallow wells or bores where they usually source water from are often contaminated.
As a result of these installations, these communities gain greater agency over their water quality and no longer need to rely on external bottled water or contaminated water sources.
We are fortunate to be able to work in such beautiful communities overlooking Atauro island. So good in fact, that our team couldn’t resist the chance to take a few snaps on the way back home from the field…
