We conducted a small vendor training on Wednesday 15th November with two vendors, Bendita and Manuel, funded through the CFLI project. The team provided the all-day training to the two new vendors at our office in Dili. The vendors learnt all about the Abundant Water organisation, the filter, its selling points, its maintenance, consumer-informed marketing techniques, discussed business plans and received some amazing advice from one of our successful vendors Joanito. Joanito passed on his wisdom from his last few years of selling, covering successful selling techniques, attitudes for a strong business mindset, how to create long-term customers and how to be savvy to keep operating costs low. Such advice is invaluable for new vendors starting out and is part of our strategy of not only creating a vendor network, but a peer-to-peer learning network. This enables new vendors to excel sooner, without making the same unnecessary mistakes as their peers, and rather learning from them.
Presenting … Our new vendors!!!
Bendita is from Maubara and has experience in sales as her family have a shop selling motorbike parts. Bendita and her family started this business from scratch and built up a strong customer base to create a competitive business in the area. Bendita also sells second hand clothes to people in her area, so along with building customer loyalty in her shop, she has the experience of door-to-door sales.
Manuel is from a village near Batugade, a town just near the West Timor border. Along with doing odd jobs in his community to earn money, Manuel drives around the mountains in his area selling fish from household to household. Manuel is excited to sell filters within his community and capitalise on demand he has already built up there to supplement his income.
