Abundant Water is pleased to announce that it has been awarded funding from The Pacific Community (SPC) through its ‘Scaling up adaptation pilots in Timor-Leste’ grant to continue to expand our work in Timor-Leste!
Awarded through the Intra-ACP EU Global Climate Change Alliance+ (EU GCCA+) Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change and Resilience Building (PACRES) project, this grant will aim to:
- Install water filters in 5 rural health centres
- Select and train up to 10 female vendors to establish viable and profitable water filter micro-enterprises
- Bring over 1000 filters to 10 target areas in rural Timor-Leste
The generous grant provides Abundant Water with an exciting opportunity to continue our efforts in expanding to new areas of Timor-Leste. Since its inception in 2018, the Timor-Leste program has brought filters to over 35,000 beneficiaries and continues to grow! Not only does the funding from SPC provide an opportunity for increased employment in rural areas, reduced deforestation and greater health outcomes, it ensures that these impacts can continue into the future once the grant has been used up. As a result of our social business model, with every project we deliver with our partners and every filter sold by our vendors, we become closer to organisational self-sufficiency.
So, through this project:
- Beneficiaries gain access to a long-term clean water source, thereby increasing their resilience in catastrophes like the 2021 Cyclone Seroja flooding.
- Vendors earn a supplementary income through their filter sales, increasing their resilience in times of economic hardship.
- Abundant Water will edge closer towards a sustainable, self-sufficient program, thereby increasing its resilience to the NGO sector's funding ebbs and flows.
Keep an eye out on our social media channels for updates as this project gets underway!
