Celebrated on the 22nd of March, World Water Day has been recognised as a United Nations observance since 1993. This day raises awareness on the importance of safe drinking water, and advocates for action in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6: “clean water and sanitation for all”.
While the luxury of safe drinking water may not be on the forefront of everybody’s mind, access to clean water remains an everyday source of anxiety for 2.2 billion people worldwide. In fact, in parts of Laos and Timor Leste, some people spend one-third of their disposable income on clean bottled water alone!
This day reminds those of us here at Abundant Water why our work is so important.
To celebrate this occasion, Abundant Water’s Chair Stuart was interviewed by the ABC to discuss our projects in Laos and Timor Leste, and how our clay water filters have helped vulnerable communities impacted by water scarcity.
